In this article, I have compiled for you the restaurants, cafes, and places to have delicious plates and taste wine in Batumi, which I visit every time for pleasure.
If you say you don’t know anything about Georgian food, you can take a look at my article Georgian Food, Desserts and Drinks 🙂
OLD BOULEVARD RESTAURANT
In Georgia’s major cities (a culture dating back to the Soviet period), classical music recitals during dinner still continue in many restaurants. Old Boulevard restaurant is located on the ground floor of one of the buildings on Batumi Boulevard.

The dining hall is two-storey and on the lower floor there are bookcases reaching up to the ceiling, sculptures, large windows that fill the interior with light, and a piano. The mezzanine floor is accessed from the stairs next to the piano. The dark furniture used in the decoration, the lights hanging from the ceiling and the live plants add a very pleasant atmosphere to the restaurant. When fast service and friendly staff are added to these features, Old Boulevard is at the top of my list of places to eat in Batumi 🙂

The restaurant belonged to a Ukrainian woman. The purpose of opening the restaurant was to offer a combination of European and traditional Georgian cuisine in a restaurant that stands out with its design in the historical center of Batumi.

The restaurant is usually quiet during the day, but in the evening it is very difficult to find a seat without a reservation. On my first visit, I found a place around the corner 🙂 The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable.

The last time I went there was Mari at the piano. I asked her to play my favorite Georgian song, Me Khom Sheni Landi Var; she accepted. The environment suddenly became more beautiful for me 🙂
ACHARULI KHACHAPURI HOUSE
Acharuli Khackapuri House, as you can understand from its name, its menu mainly focuses on khachapuri (Georgian pita). A restaurant that is really good at one thing rather than a place that does a little bit of everything has always been my favorite. The kahchapuri house consists of two floors. The decoration is traditional-modern, never annoying. Khachapuri is delicious, the staff is friendly and the service is fast. The prices are reasonable.

We three people went for lunch. We ordered medium size Adjarian Khachapuri. Khachapuri is delicious, the staff is friendly and the service is fast. The prices are reasonable.

BERN
Anyone who knows me knows that Russian writers are my favorite. That’s why spending time eating delicious food and chatting in the place that was once Chekhov’s and Gorky’s house is a very special memory for me 🙂

Bern is located in a 3-storey historical building very close to Europe Square. The building’s texture brings traces of the past; Combined with high ceilings, long and wide windows and a decoration dominated by white, a spacious environment has been created. The employees are very kind, they ask again and again if you are satisfied.

On summer nights, you can enjoy a fateful kvanchkara (a grape name that is used for producing semi-sweet wine) on the terrace, accompanied by live music. Since the restaurant is very large, you can find a seat even if you do not make a reservation, but it is useful to make a reservation for a pleasant table 🙂
NEOCCA
When you enter Neocca, which looks like a simple small wooden house from the outside, the environment suddenly grows.
Neocca is a place that serves excellent coffee with coffee beans which owner is bringing from Trieste (Italy). It also offers its guests a comfortable atmosphere and delicious food accompanied by live music.

I only had coffee, but it’s one of my friends living in Batumi’s favorite places to eat. You can use it to spend a nice evening near Batumi Boulevard.
UKRAINE
If you are looking for an alternative cuisine to eat in Batumi; You can try Ukraine.

The menu of the centrally located restaurant close to the Chacha Tower consists of traditional Ukrainian and Georgian cuisine. The place is decorated in a traditional way. The employees serve in traditional Ukrainian clothes, I cannot say that they are very friendly. Since the service is slow (as in all of Batumi), you can spend time photographing the interior.

GOSTI GASTROBAR
Run by a Russian family settled in Batumi, Gosti Gastrobar is a master at making visitors feel like they are dining at a friend’s house. An alternative place to eat in Batumi 🙂
Gosti’s menu consists of the family’s recipes. Tapas, meatballs and cocktails are delicious 🙂 Many guests of Gosti come to enjoy their delicious omelettes for breakfast and taste their legendary pies for the afternoon coffee.

The owner of the place is a master narrator. He tells historical anecdotes about both the bar and the city to those who are interested.

Decorated with various vintage items, such as an old Soviet radio, the place is a great stop for a coffee.
CAFE PRIVET IZ BATUMI
Privet Iz, decorated in vintage style, is one of the first cafes in Batumi and opened in 2003. Privet Iz Batumi means Hello from Batumi in Russian. Old photographs hanging on the wall greet you with a smile from the 1970s when you step inside. It has a central location because it is in Europe Square.

The cafe has a relaxed and calm atmosphere. Last time I went, I worked at the table next to me for 3 days because of the coffee and delicious eclair 🙂 I didn’t eat their food, but the food served to the next table looked good.
CHOCOLATTE COFFEE-ROOM
If you have a long route and that’s why you woke up early; at Chocolatte Coffee-Room, you can enjoy one of various breakfast options at affordable prices.
I worked for hours at Chocolatte Coffee-Room, accompanied by a great coffee and crepe cheesecake (their specialties), to collect my notes about the newly discovered places of the city and to map out the routes for the next days. I also made sure to write notes under the table using the paper and pens on the table 🙂

The place is cute, has a simple decoration, the owner is very polite and friendly and the prices are reasonable 🙂
MIMINO
Opened in June 2013, Mimino is one of the restaurants in the Piazza complex. The interior of Mimino has a simple and modern decoration, but it is impossible not to be fascinated when you look up and see the ceiling decorations. The name of the restaurant comes from the famous Soviet comedy, so the walls are covered with dozens of pictures from the movie.

The menu is very rich, offering a mixture of traditional and modern Georgian cuisine. If you just sit down for a coffee you may regret it. Even if you just stop by for a coffee, you’ll be hungry. If the weather is good enough to sit outside, you can also enjoy live music at the Piazza.

Update (8th of Oct 2023): When I visited last time in September, I did’t find the same atmosphere and the staff was very rude.
RIVIERA
Riviera Restaurant is located on the Kabuleti road, 3 km outside of Batumi, by the sea. The place is quite big; Its modern decoration and the fact that the sea side is completely glass add spaciousness to the place.

The employees at Riviera, which is chosen by Turkish tour companies for lunch or dinner, can speak a little Turkish thanks to the visitors 🙂 One day when the weather was sunny, I went by bike and had dinner on the seaside terrace. Food is delicious, service is fast. The price is reasonable considering the size of the place.
MUNICH RESTAURANT
Munich is located on the old town side of Batumi, close to the port. It provides service in a 19th-century building with a green courtyard and spacious terrace.
Munich offers a European atmosphere in Batumi, where different cultures come together, with its retro-style decoration and seafood-oriented menu. One of the rare places in Batumi where you can taste German beers. It is also popular with sports fans thanks to the competitions it broadcasts on its terrace.

My friends living in Batumi praised it very much, but it was closed due to Covid-19 and I could not experience it. If you happen to be there, I suggest you stop by 🙂
FISH MARKET AND SMALL FISH RESTAURANTS BEHIND IT
Fish Market is 2 km outside Batumi city center on Kobuleti road. Turbot, bonito, anchovies, horse mackerel, garfish, whiting, sea bream, sea bass and many more fish are on the stalls standing side by side… While looking at the stalls, I realize that unfortunately Turkey’s Black Sea coast is not this rich anymore. The last time I ate garfish was when I was a child; I haven’t seen it on the counters for years.

Thanks to the Turks living in Batumi, the people working at the stalls speak a little bit of Turkish, and you can get along easily. If you want, you can have your fish cleaned and cooked where you are staying, or you can have it cooked in the shabby fish restaurants behind; If you want, you can sit directly at one of the restaurants and order the fish you want.

I bought it a few times and made it at home, and a few times I was lazy and ate it there. Fish prices are affordable in Turkey. The restaurants’ menus include not only seafood but also traditional Georgian dishes. The restaurants are by the sea, the service is fast, the food is delicious and the prices are reasonable 🙂

CONTE BAR
If you see people standing and chatting somewhere with an Aperol spritz or sangria in their hands, it means that you are close to Conte 🙂 Located close to Europe Square, Conte is very popular with tourists in Batumi. You cannot see Conte empty 🙂

Conte Bar is located in the same building as the Contemporary Art Space, which hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists, film screenings and discussions on art and social issues. Umbrellas and colorful metal tables and chairs added energy to the environment. This small part of the street turns into a dance floor with DJ performances in the evenings 🙂
Conte Bar prepares a traditional breakfast menu including omelettes from 10 am. Apart from this, you can try the cake alternatives (there are normal and vegan varieties) baked by the owner of the bar. You can also order a burger or veggie wrap.
BATUMI BAZAAR
When I was little, I was giong to the my office after school on Thursdays. I was drawing pictures on the back of the money transfer papers until she leaves. At 17:30, we were going to the bazaar.
My mother wanted to choose the sweetest, the most fresh and delicious of fruits and the vegetables (in my mother’s language, small and well-shaped). Some stalls would allow it to be selected, some would not. We would return home with our hands full. The same habit still continues 🙂

This is not the place to eat in Batumi, but this is the indoor market where you can find everything you are looking for for cooking, it is affordable and open every day. My favorite place 🙂 Looking at heirloom seeds and garlic; I wander around the stalls for hours, tasting honey, cheese and walnuts.

You can somehow get along with the people behind the counter. Before I returned to Turkey, I was buying walnuts, cheese, garlic and various spices from here. You can also find alternative local items for both yourself and the people you want to give gifts to. The lower layer is vegetables and fruits; The upper floor consists of meat, delicatessen and courier stalls.

Every market creates its own habitat. Shopkeepers in the Batumi market play a card game.
I didn’t have the opportunity to go, but if you have time, you can go to the places I shared below for beer and wine tasting.
- Vaja Davitadze‘s Winemaking and Wine Cellar. The winery official website is here.
- Batumi Brewery Batumuri
- Adjarian Wine House
We have come to the end of places to eat in Batumi. I will continue to add as I discover new places.
See you in my next article 🙂
